While sleeping sans PJs might seem like something you would do for intimate reasons, it turns out that being naked between the sheets is actually better for your health.  Check out these reasons why sleeping in your birthday suit might be the best way to get a great night’s sleep.

 

  1. It Can Boost Your Metabolism

A study published in the journal Diabetes earlier this year found that when people slept at lower temperatures they burned more calories and reduced their risk of diabetes and other diseases.  It also improved their gluten sensitivity.    While this study looked at temperature as opposed to sleeping nude, the simple fact is that you will be cooler while sleeping without any extra clothing.

 

  1. It Helps You Get More Sleep

In addition to creating metabolic benefits, sleeping in an environment that is between 60 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit is believed to be ideal for getting the best sleep possible.  Researchers have found that when our bodies can’t reach the optimal core temperature for sleep, it causes insomnia and disrupts sleep.  Wearing pajamas can keep the body from reaching this optimal temperature and may even lead to overheating during the night.

 

  1. It Makes You Look Younger

It turns out that there is something to that old idea about getting your ‘beauty sleep’.  Studies indicate that sleeping in colder temps helps our anti-aging hormones do their work.  If we get too hot while we are sleeping, which can happen more easily when we are wearing pajamas than when we sleep naked, the release and production of these hormones is disrupted and they can’t do their part in helping restore our skin and youthful glow.

Stress is one of the biggest causes of belly fat and getting a good night sleep is one of the best ways to combat stress.  Research has shown that when we sleep naked we get more, higher quality sleep.  This means that doing everything possible to get a good night’s sleep, including sleeping naked, is one way to support weight loss efforts without counting a calorie or lifting a weight.
 

  1. It Can Cut Down on Yeast Infections

While it might sound a little farfetched, there is science that supports sleeping naked as a way to decrease issues with yeast infections.  Sleeping naked allows for better ventilation than sleeping in panties and/or PJs.  This helps create a less hospitable area for fungal and bacterial infections to develop.

 

  1. It Can Improve Male Fertility

One of the benefits of sleeping naked is that the body remains at a more constant temperature over the course of the night.  This is good news for men because it has been shown in increase fertility and help retain overall sperm quality.

This one may seem obvious because you are naked and in bed but it isn’t just about proximity and nakedness.  Our bodies have a biological response to skin touching skin and the feel good or love hormone oxytocin is released.  When this happens you are likely to have both more sex and better sex.
